Foster Wholesome Habits for the Future This Earth Day

This Earth Day is a time to reflect on how we as individuals and as a society have been taking care of our planet. Much of the yoga practice is about being able to sense and observe ourselves, called svadyaya, clearly. With this clear seeing (vidya) we can then create more wholesome behaviors that foster a state of being where enlightenment to grow.

Everyday is a time to practice this, but today we have a special holiday just for developing a more harmonious relationships with the planet, and ourselves , as an interdependent being living with it. So today could be a time to donate to your favorite environmental charity or take some extra time to clean up your neighborhood creek. How will you support the Earth today?

There is also the question of what we can do to invest in the health of our planet into the future. There are many ways to do this, building using sustainably sourced materials, buying an electric car or activity supporting environmental legislation. The list is endless.

Many of us are able to do some stock market investing at some point in our lifetimes, and often for decades of our lives. Have you taken the time to look into what companies you’re investing in and how they rate in terms of their sustainable use of the planets resources? The last couple years I have been investing in ESG funds, which are stocks that are rated for there environmental, social and governance sustainability.

Recently I was interviewed by Helen Zhao, a journalist with NBC, about my values and how they relate to my investing practices. A video was made of the interview and an article was published on their website. You can watch it here and read the full article. I hope it inspires you to look into your values and whether they are aligned with your investments.
